So it has been two months since I've seen BNL and I was needing a fix. It had been along, hot, boring summer on the concert scene (you will notice in musicreviews that I didn't go to any concerts the entire month of July). A carefullyplanned and overdue work trip was pulled together and I was off to Seattle, a city that Ihad never before visited. It was a lovely place, the weather was perfect, and BNL wasplaying at the somewhat famous Moore Theater, where Pearl Jam shot their"Evenflow" video. In the spirit of sharing BNL, I invited several people fromthe reseller that I was visiting and one other coworker. None of these guys had reallyheard much about BNL, except for my rantings, so they didn't know what to expect. Afterthe show there were adjectives like "awesome", "great","hysterical", "unusual", used to describe the show, and I feel likeI've done my part in creating 4 new BNL fans. Anyway, the show: BNL had two opening acts. First out was Tara MacLean who was verygood. She had a Jewel like feel about her as she played several folksy ballads on anacoustic and was occasionally accompanied by another guitarist. Of note are her songs,"Seven Stones of Jordan" and the final song she performed a cappella which Ibelieve was "Silence", the name of her CD. Next up was Dog's Eye View, a group that, to me, was unimpressive. They played a numberof songs, showed little enthusiasm, and seemed angry when all the crowd wanted to hear wastheir hit, "Everything Falls Apart". Moving on to bigger and better things, BNL hit the stage and did their close inacoustic set, now adding a personal favorite, "Blame It On Me", which had Kevinon guitar adding a nice groovy feel. Other highlights of the show included banter abouthow crappy their hotel was. It seems that when they went to check in to the Camblin, theywere told that they were in the "cabana" section, which was really the name forthe crappy section of the hotel. They proceeded to compare it to Dante's Inferno and talkabout problems with noise and air conditioners. They also had a bit of banter on X gamesand discussed how since no one really has experience in these sports, it's hard to getgood commentators. Tyler cracked me up when he added "like John Tesh at theOlympics." They proceeded into a bit about commentators contradicting one another("that's one of the more difficult moves" "no, it's actually one of theeasiest" "well, I created that move") and then went into a whole segment onthe X Games Tree Building Event with contestants planting seeds and then screaming"GROWWWW! at the ground. Later there was also a section on famous Corey's with Stevebreaking into "Never Surrender" and a rap on Seattle complete with skateboardersand flying fish. Another funny point was when Kevin said he had seen a "really bigshoe" that day, but didn't elaborate. As always, a very funny, excellent show. The crowd was a sellout. It was nice to seetheir popularity on the other coast. Next stop for me, Labor Day weekend with shows inCleveland and Minneapolis. On That Note, I'm outta here...... C |
