Old 97s
Antones, March 23, 2001
Dallas band Old 97s debuted their 5th CD Satellite Rides to
capacity Austin audiences over two nights at Antones. Departing from the
peppy introspection of 1999's Fight Songs, Satellite Rides
is a high energy pop/rock infusion with just enough of the trademark twang
that shows these boys are from Texas. The show built to rousing conclusion
with two encores, the first including my personal favorite "Lonely
Holiday" and the second, shutting it down with the rowdy "Timebomb."
While the band has enjoyed regional success with past projects, Satellite
Rides poises Old 97s to become a major force in pop music. Look for
the first single "King of All the World."
