As any regular reader of this blog knows, if Rhett Miller comes to town, I’m there. But I hadn’t seen him since before Christmas. I also love Salim Nourallah, so this double bill was a must-see. Combine this with the intimate experience of a small club, and I was in heaven.
Strange Brew is a tiny listening room, known for its well behaved audiences. That isn’t exactly what Rhett is known for, and the Silence sign behind him was kind of hilarious. But it was nice to see him in this setting. Rhett played selections from his great new CD The Traveler (performing with backing band Black Prairie).
And Salim was extremely entertaining, accompanied by his boombox. He’s also got great songs and a fun stage presence. Check out his spectacular new album, Skeleton Closet.
And at any show of Rhett’s, I love to run into the usual suspect fans and friends. It’s a lovely community.
