My first day of SXSW music was full of old and new. AudioDamn is a Germany-based group that I happened to see on Hoda and Kathie Lee a couple months ago. I sent them a tweet, and they replied with a selfie from Central Park, so I had to catch them. I like their fun R&B sound with rock underpinning. Hope to catch them again before it’s all over.
Ryan Adams is a top-five artist for me. I love everything he’s done. This show, he was particularly on, making funny comments about playing in a hotel. And even his occasional tirade about people “networking” during his set was in good humor. The set rocked, and I left a happy woman.
Avett Bros and Ryan Adams had a gig at JW Marriott, because it was sponsored by Marriott Rewards. It was a bit odd seeing them in a hotel ballroom, but both bands rocked.
Baio is a fun act. He’s from Vampire Weekend. This was outside at Waterloo Records, always a good time.
Those awesome Convention Center gigs during the day are a great way to see new artists. Declan McKenna is one super talented kid!
